pdp-faction-suspends-acting-national-chairman-damagun-and-national-secretary-over-anti-party-activities

In a decisive move, the National Working Committee (NWC) of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has suspended the Acting National Chairman, Ambassador Illiya Damagum, and the National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, over allegations of anti-party activities.

The NWC took this action after thoroughly reviewing complaints against both officials, particularly concerning their involvement in a letter addressed to the Court of Appeal in Appeal No: CA/PH/307/2024. The case in question involves 27 former members of the Rivers State House of Assembly who vacated their seats after defecting from the PDP to the All Progressives Congress (APC). The letter allegedly contradicts the party’s official position on the matter.

The NWC condemned the actions of Damagum and Anyanwu, noting that their conduct violates the PDP Constitution (as amended in 2017) and breaches the oath of office they swore to uphold. According to the party, their behavior amounts to gross misconduct and undermines the party’s integrity.

Invoking Sections 57, 58, and 59 of the PDP Constitution, the NWC announced the immediate suspension of both officials from their roles as Acting National Chairman and National Secretary, respectively. The case has been referred to the National Disciplinary Committee for further investigation and possible sanctions.

While the investigation is ongoing, Damagum and Anyanwu are suspended from participating in all NWC meetings, activities, and programs.

The decision was officially communicated by Hon. Debo Ologunagba, the National Publicity Secretary of the PDP.

This action underscores the party’s commitment to maintaining discipline within its ranks and upholding its constitutional values.
